Today we went to the Himalayan Zoo. It is located in Bulbulay, about 3 km from Gangtok. We drove past some check post and then saw in a rear view mirror a bunch of people yelling and gesticulating. It turned out that we took a wrong turn and found ourselves on the road to the Nathu La pass (to Tibet). Since foreigners are not allowed to travel in that direction, these good people wanted to alert us that we were going the wrong way.
At the zoo we were joined by Wanchuk's sister Chiphel, her son Karma Wanchuk, and a couple of his friends.
The spacious and picturesque zoo is spread over the area of more than 200 ha of mountainous land. Visiting the zoo makes for a very pleasant outing.

In the evening we went shopping for a few household items and walked back through the main thoroughfare, pedestrian-only M G Marg, pleasantly illuminated and full of people.
